Nan Rae Studio
This 2-story addition was designed for a Chinese brush artist in need of a studio. An elevator tower connects to the 2nd floor studio via a bridge. Windows in carefully selected locations offer views of the mountains to the north and of the San Fernando Valley all the way to downtown Los Angeles on the south, while minimizing glaring sunlight. Attention to detail is apparent in the galvanized steel railings with teak handrails, a floating wall in the studio with small cutouts, custom designed maple cabinets and an exquisite powder room. The studio is a large open space with tongue and groove wood ceiling and exposed ceiling beams. The traditional Chinese brush paintings are showcased against the clean, modern architecture.
